What is precision die forging?

2026-03-03
Precision Die Forging is a processing method that uses forging equipment to apply pressure to a metal blank placed in a shaped die, causing plastic deformation to obtain forgings with specified mechanical properties, shape and dimensions. Most critical parts in related machinery that bear high loads and operate under severe working conditions are basically made of forgings.
Precision die forging technology is developed on the basis of advanced multidisciplinary technologies such as new materials, new energy, information technology and automation technology. It has upgraded the traditional forging blank forming technology from general forming to high-precision, lightweight, low-cost and pollution-free forming.
Compared with conventional die forging, precision die forging can produce forgings with better surface quality, less machining allowance and higher dimensional accuracy.
At present, precision die forging is mainly applied in two aspects:
First, blank refinement, in which Precision Forging processes replace rough cutting processes, and finish-forged blanks are directly finished to obtain final parts.
Second, precision forging of parts, in which finished components are directly produced through precision die forging.
